About

112_Kevin_Gallagher_OptimizedHi! I’m Kevin Gallagher and I set up this blog based on a suggestion from a former team member of mine as I was exiting Cox Automotive after nearly 15 years. The goal is to share my thoughts and opinions with those of you that are navigating the challenges of leading a UX or Product Management team in a corporate setting. Hopefully this content helps you avoid some of the scrapes and bruises (or at least helps speed up your recovery) as you develop your authentic leadership skills. By the way, a big thank you to Jeff for suggesting I share my wisdom and write about my experiences!

I have been involved in User Experience and Digital Product Management my entire career. I started out in the agency/studio/consulting space, which allowed me to build up a robust toolkit and exposed me to a diverse set of businesses. The fast pace and variety was fun, but I was always left feeling like I was moving on to something else just as the real work was getting started. That’s when I decided to go in-house and try my hand working in a corporate setting. During this time, I helped grow Autotrader from $100 million  to over $1 billion in revenue and also played a key role in setting up Kelley Blue Book to double it’s revenue between 2012 and 2014. I’ve built my career based on one simple philosophy: Embrace Change.

I hope you find my insights, opinions and ideas helpful. Please let me know what you think and reach out if you have any questions. I love growing people and teams, but that wasn’t always the case. I had to learn the hard way what it truly means to lead people. I wouldn’t have wanted to work on my team 10 years ago. No way in hell. I hadn’t figured it out yet, but I appreciate the folks along my leadership journey that helped me grow. Yes, that includes all of my former team members that had to suffer through my growth. Thank you for helping me become a better leader.
